The 12 Commitments to Sustainability

1. Celebrating Diversity: Promoting the diversity of hospitality cultures worldwide through the uniqueness of each individual Relais & Châteaux property and its local character.

2. Preserving Heritage: Protecting local cultural heritage and iconic architecture—from the most traditional to the most modern—as well as decorative arts, landscapes, and garden design.

3. Local Partnerships: Fostering collaboration with local communities, producers, and suppliers to create shared values and support them in developing their activities and preserving their cultural heritage.

4. Place-Based Gastronomy: Offering a culinary experience that, through the creativity of our chefs, expresses the uniqueness of a location, its biodiversity, its natural and cultural environment, and its local history or traditions of agriculture and fishing.

5. Community Engagement: Collaborating with all stakeholders in our ecosystem to give as many people as possible the chance to discover and appreciate the vital role of the environment, nutrition, and cuisine for our health, raising awareness of product quality and sharing the joy of an exceptional meal.

6. Ecological Regeneration: Contributing to the regeneration and development of terrestrial and marine ecosystems in cooperation with local authorities, NGOs, scientists, and all other stakeholders committed to biodiversity conservation.

7. Ethical Sourcing: Utilizing the influence of Relais & Châteaux chefs and their sourcing choices to promote regenerative agriculture, advocate for animal welfare, and contribute to the preservation of the oceans by supporting small-scale fisheries using sustainable techniques.

8. Climate Action: Contributing globally—as an association and through our members—to the fight against climate change by 2040, by implementing permanent management concepts that allow properties to measure and manage the progressive decarbonization of their activities.

9. Resource Management: Gradually implementing ambitious environmental goals by 2040 in the areas of water, energy, waste management, the elimination of plastics (especially single-use items), and the targeted use of local and seasonal food.

10. Social Empowerment: Supporting local communities in their efforts to preserve and develop their cultural and artisanal heritage. Collaborating to develop educational opportunities and striving together to reduce inequalities. Offering those who wish it the opportunity to engage in the hospitality and gastronomy sectors and to develop socially and economically within an environment dedicated to excellence.
